IS Sunday school is Biblical?

By: Shaila Touchton | April 04, 2017 God’s children must worship together, regardless of age, gender, race, marital or socioeconomic status, etc. God wants everyone to seek him, He longs to see people of all tongues, tribes, nations, and ages in communion with one another. And I personally desire to worship with my family. God's Word shows that he is glorified by the worship of children. He commands their inclusion in the worship of his people. We all must experience God together as a family if God is to be at the center of our family, that means we gather together with fellow believers to sing and pray, We form our identities as Children of God through active participation in worship, and involvement in a community of practice we do it as a family but our own kids are segregated during worship sent to Sunday school separating from their families , and from family of believers and removed from the preaching of the Word based on their age-graded programmes, bible stories, parish school's playground for playing and dance almost like a school class room. Often children in nurseries are offered no spiritual instruction or worship opportunity at all. Did Jesus said young children do not attend “the service” until they can sit quietly with their families or segregate them to Sunday schools? But kicking out the children, or demanding only perfect children come to mass, is like demanding only saints and perfect Christians come to church. The Church is designed for everyone .What if the little kid goes out and dies tomorrow in an accident, would you deny him participating in the mass or worship service till he was a big responsible kid? Jesus wants all of us, even at our worst, to come and love and be loved. Do we not include our children’s in our family prayer at home? Why not in Church? Jesus loves children. Jesus wants them. They are not inconveniences and distractions. They are blessed outpourings of God’s grace. In Matthew 18:3 And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Mark 10:13-16: People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. In the New Testament we see Jesus in the temple at the age of 12 (Luke 2:41 -50), and recall the spiritual joy that moved John the Baptist even in the womb (Luke 1:41). Paul reminds Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:15 how from 'infancy' he had known the holy Scriptures. The Biblical model for the structure of a church service is for each person to share what God has done for them: “Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation.” (1 Corinthians 14:26). Deuteronomy 31:12-13 :Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, 13 and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess. Mass or Church service is Celebration of Christ not education time. When infant and small childrens attend the mass or Church service with their parents, the childrens will realize, the worship service of Mass is for worshipping God. Those who choose to forsake assembling themselves together with their fellow Christians are, by example, teaching others that attending church is not important. Attending all of the services of your church takes personal sacrifice and commitment. It is not always the easiest thing to go to church. Scripture does not say that we are to serve and obey the Lord only if it is convenient. Most Sunday schools have a craft time, snack time, or game time. Usually, the kids have been waiting eagerly for these entertaining events, and they provide a great opportunity to get the wiggles out. When Sunday school is over, it’s candy time. Kids line up at the door, crafts in hand, and receive a sticker or candy as they rejoin their parents. Paul's letters to the Ephesians and Colossians make it clear that children were present in their gatherings. It is reasonable to assume that the whole church would gather to read Paul's letters. It is noteworthy, then, to note that Paul addresses specific age groups in his letters, including children in particular. Children need to learn that their little voices are important to the corporate praise. In Psalm 22:22 the Lord says, “I will declare thy (the Father’s) name unto my brethren; in the midst of the assembly will I praise thee.” This teaches us that the Lord is in the midst of the worshiping congregation in a very special way. He is with his brothers when they are praising God. Shall we refuse the little children to come to Jesus Christ as he is in the midst of the assembly, though he is not ashamed to call them his little brothers? And of which of you that is a father shall a son ask a loaf, and he give him a stone? or a fish, and he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:11-13). Which one of us will substitute a nursery for our children in place of the presence of the Spirit of Jesus Christ as he sings praises to God in the midst of the church?Children have the capacity to approach the throne of grace boldly.
